Wadi Rum, Jordan

Wadi Rum is an immense desert wilderness in Southern Jordan and is truly a remarkable and surreal destination to travel to.
The vast dusty landscape is coloured in many shades of red, pink and gold and offers many incredible and diverse natural
attractions to explore. It is home to great sandstone mountains, sand dunes, wild camels, natural arches such as the Um Fruth Rock Bridge and interesting rock formations, like the Khazali Canyon. I spent a full day exploring with a local guide by jeep and felt it was only a brief introduction to Wadi Rum’s many offerings. I absolutely recommend staying for the evening and experiencing the desert at night. We were spoilt by a feast of local dishes, one of which had been roasted under hot coals
and sand for 12 hours – with mouth watering results. We relaxed with the vibrant company of the Bedouin guides sharing
stories and playing fantastic music into the night. Rising early I walked out into the desert to find myself surrounded by an eerie silence, there was not a sound of wind, trees, birds, people – nothing. Wadi Rum is referred to as “The Valley of the Moon” which I think encapsulates the desert perfectly, it is truly unlike anywhere I have been before.
