Paraty, Brazil

Paraty is a beautifully preserved colonial town situated on Brazil’s Costa Verde, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

With an incredible mountain backdrop, charming cobble stone streets and colourful painted doorways , Paraty is one of the most delightful towns I have visited and a wonderful place to relax and escape the bustle of it’s nearby capital.

Surrounded by pristine beaches and national parks you have plenty of options for exploring and information is readily available.

With so many great Pousada’s to stay in, on a rainy day you can sleep in and spend the afternoon wondering the streets browsing the countless artisan shops, or enjoy a coffee in one of the inviting cosy cafes.

In the evenings there is a magical feeling to the town, with tables from the many eclectic bars and restaurants spilling out and, gently illuminating the streets.

Paraty is home to a large artistic community and there is often an exciting cultural event on. When I visited there was an instrumental music festival in town and the city became alive at night with an incredible festival vibe with streets stalls and the crowd dancing into the night.
