Gosau is a tiny village in the mountainous upper Austria region around 20 minutes outside of Hallstatt. This peaceful charming region has rolling hills with picturesque wooden alpine chalets dotted across the countryside.
The main draw card is the stunning Lake Gosauseen with it’s clear cobalt waters, a beautiful mountain back drop and lovely forest surroundings and a reflection of the Dachstein glacier on its calm surface.
You can walk leisurely around the entire lake and there is also a fantastic walking track that takes you deeper into the forest, past a petrified forest and to another smaller lake, Gosaulacke which is a deep crystal blue.
Goseu is a little off the beaten path so you may well have this spectacular piece of nature to yourself.
