Bangkok is the big, vibrant and sweltering capital of Thailand and is an exhilarating destination to visit.
Bangkok doesn’t quite feel like anywhere else, you will step out into bustling streets and be taken over by the chaotic sights and sounds.
Amazing spicy aromas emanate from the many small street eateries and it wouldn’t be an authentic experience if you didn’t indulge in their delicious offerings.
My favourite thing about Bangkok is the amazing markets dotted around the city selling fresh produce and flowers which are open well into the night. After a long sweaty day of exploring there is nothing better than a big glass of freshly squeezed juice.
The locals are indeed very friendly and open, however in main tourist areas you need to be careful of people approaching you as scams are very common. The scams can be very impressive in their complexity and scope, often involving different people who are seemingly unconnected to each other. There doesn’t seam to be any malice behind the scams however, it has simply become a way to earn a living for some otherwise good people, so just decline with a smile and continue on your way – it is all part of the overwhelming experience of Bangkok!
There are many spiritual and ornate temples to discover and of course the Grand Palace is stunning. Wat Phra Kaew and The Emerald Buddha were absolute highlights for me!
The mix of old and new, peace and chaos is what makes this city so special and it is a wonderful place to absorb before heading to the islands of Thailand for some rest and relaxation
